Jay wakes up dead - obviously murdered - and discovers that everything the agency told him about becoming a zombie was bullshit.

In the near future, it becomes possible to sell your body to be used after death. There’s a parasite that can reanimate your corpse to do menial tasks. It’s a significant payout so nearly everyone ends up signing themselves over to Post Mortem Recruitment at some point - on the understanding that when they become zombies, they will lack any kind of consciousness.

When Jay wakes up dead, with a knife in his back, he realizes it has all been a lie. Zombies are still “themselves”, they simply cannot communicate with the living any more.

At first Jay wants to forget his former life and get on with his new reality, but he can't seem to stop his old memories flooding back or his new instincts from kicking in or the other zombies from following him. This revenge is happening.
